Question 161 of 180

A condenser of 2μF2\mu F capacitance is charged steadily from 00 to 5C5C. Which of the following graph represents correctly the variation of potential difference(V)\left(V\right) across its plates with respect to the charge (Q)\left(Q\right) on the condenser?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A)

The charge on a condenser is given by Q=CVQ=CV.
⇒V=1CQ\Rightarrow V=\dfrac{1}{C}Q
Since the capacitance depends on the construction of the condenser, it is constant. Therefore, the graph will be straight line with slope
=1C=\dfrac{1}{C}.
Slope
=1C=12×10−6=5×105=\dfrac{1}{C}=\dfrac{1}{2\times {10}^{-6}}=5\times {10}^{5}
