Question 94 of 276

Currents of a 10 ampere and 2 ampere are passed through two parallel thin wires AA and BB respectively in opposite directions. Wire AA is infinitely long and the length of the wire BB is 2 m2 \mathrm{~m}. The force acting on the conductor BB, which is situated at 10 cm10 \mathrm{~cm} distance from AA will be

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 8×10−5 N8 \times 10^{-5} \mathrm{~N}

Force acting on conductor BB due to conductor AA is given by relation F=μ0I1I2l2πrF=\frac{\mu_0 I_1 I_2 l}{2 \pi r}
ll-length of conductor BB
rr-distance between two conductors
∴F=4π×10−7×10×2×22×π×0.1=8×10−5 N\therefore F=\frac{4 \pi \times 10^{-7} \times 10 \times 2 \times 2}{2 \times \pi \times 0.1}=8 \times 10^{-5} \mathrm{~N}
