Question 199 of 276

Given below are two statements:
Statement I: If the number of turns in the coil of a moving coil galvanometer is doubled then the current sensitivity becomes double.

Statement II: Increasing current sensitivity of a moving coil galvanometer by only increasing the number of turns in the coil will also increase its voltage sensitivity in the same ratio

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) Statement II is true but Statement IIII is false

For a moving coil galvanometer,
(NiAB)=kθ\left(NiAB\right)=k\theta
The current sensitivity is given by

Si=NABk{S}_{i}=\dfrac{NAB}{k}
So, if
NN is doubled then, the current sensitivity is also doubled.
The voltage is given by

V=(BNARk)θV=\left(\dfrac{BNA}{Rk}\right)\theta
The voltage sensitivity is given by

Sv=(NABkR){S}_{v}=\left(\dfrac{NAB}{kR}\right)
As,
NN is increased, RR also increases. So, the voltage sensitivity does not change as NR\dfrac{N}{R} remains constant.
