Question 207 of 276

A triangular shaped wire carrying 10A10A current is placed in a uniform magnetic field of 0.5T0.5T, as shown in figure. The magnetic force on segment CDCD is (Given BC=CD=BD=5cmBC=CD=BD=5cm).

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 0.216N0.216N

Force due to magnetic field on a current carrying conductor is given by, F⃗=il⃗×B⃗\vec{F}=i\vec{l}\times \vec{B}.
The angle between the magnetic field and the direction of the current in the wire
CDCD is 60∘60^{\circ}. Therefore,
F=ilBsin⁡60∘⇒F=10×0.05×0.5×32⇒F=0.216NF=ilB\sin 60^{\circ} \Rightarrow F=10\times 0.05\times 0.5\times \dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \Rightarrow F=0.216N
