Question 209 of 276

The current sensitivity of a galvanometer can be increased by :
(A) decreasing the number of turns

(B) increasing the magnetic field

(C) decreasing the area of the coil

(D) decreasing the torsional constant of the spring

Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) (B) and (D) only

The current in the galvanometer is calculated by i=(KNAB)θi=\left(\dfrac{K}{NAB}\right)\theta.
Therefore, the sensitivity of the galvanometer,

dθdi=NABK\dfrac{d\theta }{di}=\dfrac{NAB}{K}
Hence, only options B and D are correct.
