Question 271 of 276

A magnetic dipole is acted upon by two magnetic fields which are inclined to each other at an angle of 75o{75}^{o}. One of the fields has a magnitude of 15mT15mT. The dipole attains stable equilibrium at an angle of 30o{30}^{o} with this field. The magnitude of the other field (in mTmT) is close to

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 1111

θ1+θ=75o{\theta }_{1}+\theta ={75}^{o}

MB1sin⁡θ1=MB2sin⁡θM{B}_{1}\sin {\theta }_{1}=M{B}_{2}\sin \theta

⇒B12=152\Rightarrow \dfrac{{B}_{1}}{\sqrt{2}}=\dfrac{15}{2}

⇒B1=152≈11mT\Rightarrow {B}_{1}=\dfrac{15}{\sqrt{2}}\approx 11mT
