Question 66 of 192

An ideal fluid flows (laminar flow) through a pipe of non-uniform diameter. The maximum and minimum diameters of the pipes are 6.4cm6.4cm and 4.8cm4.8cm , respectively. The ratio of the minimum and the maximum velocities of fluid in this pipe is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 916\dfrac{9}{16}

Using equation of continuity
A1V1=A2V2{A}_{1}{V}_{1}={A}_{2}{V}_{2}
V1V2=A2A1=(4.86.4)2=916\dfrac{{V}_{1}}{{V}_{2}}=\dfrac{{A}_{2}}{{A}_{1}}={\left(\dfrac{4.8}{6.4}\right)}^{2}=\dfrac{9}{16}
