Question 44 of 200

An electron with speed vv and a photon with speed cc have the same de-Broglie wavelength. If the kinetic energy and momentum of electron are Ee{E}_{e} and Pe{P}_{e} and that of photon are Eph{E}_{ph} and Pph{P}_{ph} respectively. Which of the following is correct?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) EeEph=v2c\dfrac{{E}_{e}}{{E}_{ph}}=\dfrac{v}{2c}

We have, λp=hpp{\lambda }_{p}=\dfrac{h}{{p}_{p}} and λe=hpe{\lambda }_{e}=\dfrac{h}{{p}_{e}}
Given here,
λe=λp{\lambda }_{e}={\lambda }_{p}, then pp=pe{p}_{p}={p}_{e}
Ratio of their energy is
EphEe=hcλPpe22m=2mcpe=2mcmv=2cvEphEe=hcλPpe22m=2mcpe=2mcmv=2cv
