Question 164 of 200

In a photoelectric effect experiment, the graph of stopping potential VV versus reciprocal of wavelength obtained is shown in the figure. As the intensity of incident radiation is increased :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) Graph does not change

Einstein's photoelectric equation is given by,
eVs=hν−Wo{eV}_{s}=h\nu -{W}_{o}, where Wo{W}_{o} is the work function.
⇒Vs=hceλ−Woe\Rightarrow {V}_{s}=\dfrac{hc}{e\lambda }-\dfrac{{W}_{o}}{e}, where c=νλc=\nu \lambda.
Intensity does not affect the frequency and work function of a material. Therefore, the graph does not change with increasing intensity.
