Question 64 of 165

An EM wave propagating in xx-direction has a wavelength of 8mm8mm. The electric field vibrating yy-direction has maximum magnitude of 60Vm−160{Vm}^{-1}. Choose the correct equations for electric and magnetic fields if the EM wave is propagating in vacuum :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) Ey=60sin⁡[π4×103(x−3×108t)]j^Vm−1{E}_{y}=60\sin \left[\dfrac{\pi }{4}\times {10}^{3}\left(x-3\times {10}^{8}t\right)\right]\hat{j}V{m}^{-1}
Bz=2×10−7sin⁡[π4×103(x−3×108t)]k^T{B}_{z}=2\times {10}^{-7}\sin \left[\dfrac{\pi }{4}\times {10}^{3}\left(x-3\times {10}^{8}t\right)\right]\hat{k}T

Using the relation E⃗=cB⃗\vec{E}=c\vec{B}, where, cc is speed of light in vacuum.
After analysing each option, we get option
BB is the correct option
as
E⃗B⃗=602×10−7=3×108ms−1\dfrac{\vec{E}}{\vec{B}}=\dfrac{60}{2\times {10}^{-7}}=3\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1}.
