Question 142 of 165

The amplitude of magnetic field in an electromagnetic wave propagating along yy-axis is 6.0×10–7T6.0\times {10}^{–7}T. The maximum value of electric field in the electromagnetic wave is

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 180Vm–1180V{m}^{–1}

The relation between the electric field and magnetic field is given by
E0=cB0{E}_{0}=c{B}_{0}.
The given data is

B0=6×10−7T{B}_{0}=6\times {10}^{-7}T
c=3×108ms−1c=3\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1}
Thus, the maximum value of the electric field is

E0=(3×108)×(6×10–7)=180Vm−1{E}_{0}=\left(3\times {10}^{8}\right)\times \left(6\times {10}^{–7}\right)=180V{m}^{-1}.
