Electromagnetic Waves

JEE Main level, single correct, medium

151 of 165

Question 151 of 165

If microwaves, X‐X‐rays, infrared, gamma rays, ultraviolet, radio waves and visible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum are denoted respectively by MM, XX, II, GG, UU, RR and VV the following is the arrangement in ascending order of the wavelength

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) GG, XX, UU, VV, II, MM and RR

The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is the range of all types of EM radiation. The γ‐\gamma ‐ray has a maximum frequency or minimum wavelength; since the wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency, while radio wave has a minimum frequency and maximum wavelength. The order of wavelength will be; Gamma rays GG < X-rays XX < Ultra violet UU < Visible rays VV < Infrared rays II < Microwaves MM < Radio waves RR.
