Question 20 of 121

Statement I: If three forces F⃗1,F⃗2{\vec{F}}_{1},{\vec{F}}_{2} and F⃗3{\vec{F}}_{3} are represented by three sides of a triangle and F1⃗+F2⃗=−F⃗3,\vec{{F}_{1}}+\vec{{F}_{2}}=-{\vec{F}}_{3}, then these three forces are concurrent forces and satisfy the condition for equilibrium.
Statement II: A triangle made up of three forces
F1⃗,F2⃗\vec{{F}_{1}},\vec{{F}_{2}} and F3⃗\vec{{F}_{3}} as its sides were taken in the same order, satisfies the condition for translatory equilibrium.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) Both Statement I and Statement II are true.

Use triangle law of vector addition,

here,
F⃗1+F⃗2+F⃗3=0{\vec{F}}_{1}+{\vec{F}}_{2}+{\vec{F}}_{3}=0, since net force is zero it means the body is in equilibrium so both the statements are correct.
