Question 31 of 121

The sum of two forces P⃗\vec{P} and Q⃗\vec{Q} is R⃗\vec{R} such that ∣R⃗∣=∣P⃗∣\left|\vec{R}\right|=\left|\vec{P}\right|. Find the angle between resultant of 2P⃗2\vec{P} and Q⃗\vec{Q} and Q⃗\vec{Q} , ________

Show answer and solution

Answer: 90

So angle between
(2P⃗+Q⃗)\left(2\vec{P}+\vec{Q}\right) and Q⃗\vec{Q} is 90o{90}^{o}

Alternate solution

∣P⃗+Q⃗∣=∣P⃗∣\left|\vec{\text{P}}+\vec{\text{Q}}\right|=\left|\vec{\text{P}}\right|
P2+Q2+2PQcos⁡⁡θ=P2{P}^{2}+{Q}^{2}+2PQ\cos ⁡\theta ={P}^{2}
⇒Q+2PQcos⁡⁡θ=O\Rightarrow Q+2PQ\cos ⁡\theta =O
⇒cos⁡⁡θ=−Q2P\Rightarrow \cos ⁡\theta =-\dfrac{Q}{2P}

tan⁡⁡α=2Psin⁡⁡θ2Pcos⁡⁡θ+Q=∞\tan ⁡\alpha =\dfrac{2P\sin ⁡\theta }{2P\cos ⁡\theta +Q}=\infty
∵[2Pcos⁡⁡θ+Q=0]∵\left[2P\cos ⁡\theta +Q=0\right]
α=90o\alpha ={90}^{o}
