Question 143 of 308

Train A is moving along two parallel rail tracks towards north with 72kmh−172km{h}^{-1} and train BB is moving towards south with speed 108kmh−1108km{h}^{-1}. Velocity of train BB with respect to AA and velocity of ground with respect to BB are (in ms−1m{s}^{-1}):

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) −50-50 and 3030

VA=72kmh−1=72×10003600=20ms−1{V}_{A}=72km{h}^{-1}=72\times \dfrac{1000}{3600}=20m{s}^{-1} and
VB=−108kmh−1=−108×10003600=−30ms−1{V}_{B}=-108km{h}^{-1}=-108\times \dfrac{1000}{3600}=-30m{s}^{-1}
Velocity of
BB w.r.t. AA:
VB/A=−30−20=–50ms−1{V}_{B/A}=-30-20=–50m{s}^{-1}
Velocity of ground w.r.t.
BB:
VG/B=0−(−30)=30ms−1{V}_{G/B}=0-\left(-30\right)=30m{s}^{-1}
