Question 145 of 308

Two trains AA and BB of length ll and 4l4l are travelling into a tunnel of length LL in parallel tracks from opposite directions with velocities 108kmh−1108km{h}^{-1} and 72kmh−1,72km{h}^{-1}, respectively. If train AA take 35s35s less time than train BB to cross the tunnel then, length LL of tunnel is:
(Given
L=60lL=60l)

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 1800m1800m

The time taken for AA
ΔtA=l+LVA\Delta {t}_{A}=\dfrac{l+L}{{V}_{A}}
The time taken for
BB
ΔtB=4l+LVB\Delta {t}_{B}=\dfrac{4l+L}{{V}_{B}}
It is given that
BB takes more time than AA. So,
⇒4l+L20−l+L30=35\Rightarrow \dfrac{4l+L}{20}-\dfrac{l+L}{30}=35
⇒64l20−61l30=35\Rightarrow \dfrac{64l}{20}-\dfrac{61l}{30}=35
⇒l=35×600700=30m\Rightarrow l=\dfrac{35\times 600}{700}=30m
Therefore,

L=1800mL=1800m.
