Question 156 of 308

A body falling under gravity covers two points AA and BB separated by 80m80m in 2s2s. The distance of upper point AA from the starting point is _____mm. Use (g=10ms−2)\left(g=10m{s}^{-2}\right)

Show answer and solution

Answer: 45

From
A→BA\rightarrow B, using the equation of motion, we have
−80=−v1t−12×10t2⇒−80=−2v1−12×10×22⇒−80=−2v1−20⇒−60=−2v1⇒v1=30ms−1-80=-{v}_{1}t-\dfrac{1}{2}\times 10{t}^{2} \Rightarrow -80=-2{v}_{1}-\dfrac{1}{2}\times 10\times {2}^{2} \Rightarrow -80=-2{v}_{1}-20 \Rightarrow -60=-2{v}_{1} \Rightarrow {v}_{1}=30m{s}^{-1}
From
OO to AA, it follows that
v2=u2+2gS⇒302=0+2×(−10)(−S)⇒900=20S⇒S=45m{v}^{2}={u}^{2}+2gS \Rightarrow {30}^{2}=0+2\times (-10)(-S) \Rightarrow 900=20S \Rightarrow S=45m
