Question 164 of 308

Two balls AA and BB are placed at the top of 180m180m tall tower. Ball AA is released from the top at t=0st=0s. Ball BB is thrown vertically down with an initial velocity uu at t=2st=2s. After a certain time, both balls meet 100m100m above the ground. Find the value of uu in ms−1m{s}^{-1}. [use g=10ms−2g=10{ms}^{-2}]

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 3030

Displacement covered by first ball,(180−100)=0+12×10×t2\left(180-100\right)=0+\dfrac{1}{2}\times 10\times {t}^{2} ⇒t=4s\Rightarrow t=4s
Now, the second body gets only,
t2=4−2=2s{t}_{2}=4-2=2s.
Displacement covered by second will be same,

80=u×2+12×10×(2)280=u\times 2+\dfrac{1}{2}\times 10\times {\left(2\right)}^{2}
⇒u=80−202=30ms−1\Rightarrow u=\dfrac{80-20}{2}=30m{s}^{-1}
