Question 176 of 308

A person standing on a spring balance inside a stationary lift measures 60kg60kg. The weight of that person if the lift descends with uniform downward acceleration of 1.8ms−21.8m{s}^{-2} will be NN. [g=10ms−2]\left[g=10m{s}^{-2}\right]

Show answer and solution

Answer: 492

When lift is at rest

N=mgN=mg
⇒60×10=600N\Rightarrow 60\times 10=600N
When lift moves with downward acceleration. In frame of lift pseudo force will be in upward direction.

N′=M(g−a){N}^{'}=M\left(g-a\right)
⇒60(10−1.8)\Rightarrow 60\left(10-1.8\right)
N′⇒492N{N}^{'}\Rightarrow 492N
