Question 178 of 308

An elevator in a building can carry a maximum of 1010 persons, with the average mass of each person being 68kg68kg . The mass of the elevator itself is 920kg920kg and it moves with a constant speed of 3m/s3m/s . The frictional force opposing the motion is 6000N6000N . If the elevator is moving up with its full capacity, the power delivered by the motor to the elevator (g=10m/s2)\left(g=10m/{s}^{2}\right) must be at least:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 66000W66000W

Net force on motor will be
Fm=[920+68(10)]g+6000{F}_{m}=\left[920+68\left(10\right)\right]g+6000
=22000N=22000N
So, required power for motor

Pm=F⃗m.v⃗{P}_{m}={\vec{F}}_{m}.\vec{v}
=22000×3=22000\times 3
=66000watt=66000watt
