Question 195 of 308

A passenger train of length 60m60m travels at a speed of 80km/hr80km/hr. Another freight train of length 120m120m travels at a speed of 30km/hr30km/hr. The ratio of times taken by the passenger train to completely cross the freight train when: (i) they are moving in the same direction, and (ii) in the opposite directions is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 115\dfrac{11}{5}

t1=2(60)+120(80−30){t}_{1}=\dfrac{2\left(60\right)+120}{\left(80-30\right)}

t2=2(60)+12080+30{t}_{2}=\dfrac{2\left(60\right)+120}{80+30}

t1t2=115\dfrac{{t}_{1}}{{t}_{2}}=\dfrac{11}{5}
