Question 259 of 308

A particle starts from the origin at t=0t=0 with an initial velocity of 3.0i^m/s3.0\hat{i}m/s and moves in the x−yx-y plane with a constant acceleration (6.0i^+4.0j^)m/s2.\left(6.0\hat{i}+4.0\hat{j}\right)m/{s}^{2}. The x−x- coordinate of the particle at the instant when its y−y- coordinate is 32m32m is DD meters. The value of DD is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 6060

Sy=uyt+12ayt2{S}_{y}={u}_{y}t+\dfrac{1}{2}{a}_{y}{t}^{2}
32=0+12×4t2⇒t=4s32=0+\dfrac{1}{2}\times 4{t}^{2}\Rightarrow t=4s
Sx=uxt+12axt2{S}_{x}={u}_{x}t+\dfrac{1}{2}{a}_{x}{t}^{2}
=3×4+12×6×16=3\times 4+\dfrac{1}{2}\times 6\times 16
=60m=60m
