Question 302 of 308

A clock has a continuously moving second's hand of 0.1m0.1m length. The average acceleration of the tip of the hand (in units of ms−2{ms}^{-2} ]) is of the order of :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 10−3{10}^{-3}

The instantaneous acceleration of tip is given by
ac=ω2R=(2π60)2×0.1=1900≈10−3ac={\omega }^{2}R={\left(\dfrac{2\pi }{60}\right)}^{2}\times 0.1=\dfrac{1}{900}\approx {10}^{-3}
