Question 98 of 295

As shown in the figure, after passing through the medium 11. The speed of light v2{v}_{2} in medium 22 will be :
(Given
c=3×108ms−1c=3\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1})

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 1.0×108ms−11.0\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1}

The refractive index of a medium is given by, n=μrϵrn=\sqrt{{\mu }_{r}{\epsilon }_{r}}.
For medium
22, n2=1×9=3{n}_{2}=\sqrt{1\times 9}=3
Now speed of light in a medium will be,

cv=n⇒v=3×1083=1×108ms−1\dfrac{c}{v}=n \Rightarrow v=\dfrac{3\times {10}^{8}}{3}=1\times {10}^{8}m{s}^{-1}
