Question 156 of 295

Given below are two statements :
Statement (I) : When an object is placed at the centre of curvature of a concave lens, image is formed at the centre of curvature of the lens on the other side.

Statement (II) : Concave lens always forms a virtual and erect image.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) Statement I is true but Statement II is false

1v−1u=1f1v−1−2f=1−f⇒1v=−12f⇒v=−2f1v=1u+1f⇒ Virtual image of Real object. \begin{aligned} & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{1}{\mathrm{u}}=\frac{1}{\mathrm{f}} \\ & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{1}{-2 \mathrm{f}}=\frac{1}{-\mathrm{f}} \\ & \Rightarrow \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{-1}{2 \mathrm{f}} \Rightarrow \mathrm{v}=-2 \mathrm{f} \\ & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{1}{\mathrm{u}}+\frac{1}{\mathrm{f}} \Rightarrow \text { Virtual image of Real object. }\end{aligned}
In statement II, it is not mentioned that object is real or virtual hence Statement II is false.
