Question 161 of 295

Light from a point source in air falls on a convex curved surface of radius 20cm20cm and refractive index 1.51.5. If the source is located at 100cm100cm from the convex surface, the image will be formed at ______ cmcm from the object.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 200

μ2v−μ1u=μ2−μ1R\dfrac{{\mu }_{2}}{v}-\dfrac{{\mu }_{1}}{u}=\dfrac{{\mu }_{2}-{\mu }_{1}}{R}
⇒1.5v−1−100=1.5−120\Rightarrow \dfrac{1.5}{v}-\dfrac{1}{-100}=\dfrac{1.5-1}{20}
⇒v=100cm\Rightarrow v=100cm
Distance from object

=100+100=100+100
=200cm=200cm
