Question 169 of 295

A point object OO is placed in front of two thin symmetrical coaxial convex lenses L1{L}_{1} and L2{L}_{2} with focal length 24cm24cm and 9cm9cm respectively. The distance between two lenses is 10cm10cm and the object is placed 6cm6cm away from lens L1{L}_{1} as shown in the figure. The distance between the object and the image formed by the system of two lenses is _____________ cmcm

Show answer and solution

Answer: 34

For
L1{L}_{1}:
1v1+16=124\dfrac{1}{{v}_{1}}+\dfrac{1}{6}=\dfrac{1}{24}
⇒1v1=124−16\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{{v}_{1}}=\dfrac{1}{24}-\dfrac{1}{6}
=1−424=\dfrac{1-4}{24}
⇒1v1=(−324)\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{{v}_{1}}=\left(\dfrac{-3}{24}\right)
⇒v1=–8cm\Rightarrow {v}_{1}=–8cm
For
L2{L}_{2}:
u=–18cmu=–18cm
⇒1v+118=19\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{v}+\dfrac{1}{18}=\dfrac{1}{9}
⇒1v=19−118\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{9}-\dfrac{1}{18}
=2−118=\dfrac{2-1}{18}
⇒1v=118\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{18}
⇒v=18cm\Rightarrow v=18cm

Distance between object and distance
=16+18=34cm=16+18=34cm.
