Question 176 of 295

In an experiment with a convex lens. The plot of the image distance (v′)\left({v}^{'}\right) against the object distance (μ′)\left({\mu }^{'}\right) measured from the focus gives a curve v′μ′=225{v}^{'}{\mu }^{'}=225. If all the distances are measured in cmcm. The magnitude of the focal length of the lens is _____ cmcm.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 15

Using Newton's formula for lenses,
vu=f2vu={f}^{2} , here, ff is focal length of the lens.
Given here,
v′μ′=225{v}^{'}{\mu }^{'}=225
Thus, focal length of the lens is
f2=225{f}^{2}=225
Or
f=15cmf=15cm
