Question 265 of 295

A ray of light is incident at an angle of 60∘{60}^{^{\circ}} on one face of a prism of angle 30∘{30}^{^{\circ}}. The emergent ray of light makes an angle of 30∘{30}^{^{\circ}} with incident ray. The angle made by the emergent ray with second face of prism will be:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 90∘90^{\circ}

Incidence angle on one face of a prism, i=60∘i=60^{\circ}. Angle of the prism, A=30∘A=30^{\circ},the mergent ray that makes an angle 30∘30^{\circ} with incident ray. We know, deviation angle, δ=\delta = Angle between the incident ray and emergent ray=30∘=30^{\circ}⇒δ=i+e−A\Rightarrow \delta =i+e-A
⇒30∘=60∘+e−30∘\Rightarrow 30^{\circ}=60^{\circ}+e-{30}^{^{\circ}}
⇒e=0∘\Rightarrow e=0^{\circ}. So, the angle with the face,=90∘=90^{\circ}.
