Question 78 of 280

The moment of inertial of a solid sphere, about an axis parallel to its diameter and at a distance of xx from it, is ′I(x)′.'I{\left(x\right)}^{'}. Which one of the graphs represents the variation of I(x)I(x) with xx correctly?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A)

we know that by se the parallel axis theorem :-
Moment of inertia about a point which is parallel of the axis and at a distance of X given as

Ix=Icm+mx2{I}_{x}={I}_{cm}+m{x}^{2}

Ix=25mR2+mx2⇒{I}_{x}=\dfrac{2}{5}m{R}^{2}+m{x}^{2}\Rightarrow Parabola opening upward
