Rotational Motion

JEE Main level, single correct, medium

Question 248 of 280

A disc of radius RR and mass MM is rolling horizontally without slipping with speed vv. It then moves up an inclined smooth surface as shown in figure. The maximum height that the disc can go up the incline is:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 12v2g\dfrac{1}{2}\dfrac{{v}^{2}}{g}

Only the translational kinetic energy of disc changes into gravitational potential energy and rotational KEKE remains unchanged as there is no friction.
12mv2=mgh\dfrac{1}{2}m{v}^{2}=mgh
⇒h=v22g\Rightarrow h=\dfrac{{v}^{2}}{2g}
