Question 131 of 191

A monochromatic light of wavelength 6000Ao6000A^{o} is incident on the single slit of width 0.01mm0.01mm. If the diffraction pattern is formed at the focus of the convex lens of focal length 20cm20cm, the linear width of the central maximum is :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 24mm24mm

The linear width of central maxima is given by,
W=2λDd=2×6×10−7×0.21×10−5W=\dfrac{2\lambda D}{d}=\dfrac{2\times 6\times {10}^{-7}\times 0.2}{1\times {10}^{-5}}
=2.4×10−2=24mm=2.4\times {10}^{-2}=24mm
