Question 165 of 191

When unpolarized light is incident at an angle of 60∘60^{\circ} on a transparent medium from air. The reflected ray is completely polarized. The angle of refraction in the medium is

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 30∘30^{\circ}

By Brewster’s law at complete polarization, refracted ray and reflected ray are perpendicular to each other.

As angle of reflection will be
=60∘=60^{\circ}. Therefore, angle of refraction will be =180∘−60∘−90∘=30∘=180^{\circ}-60^{\circ}-90^{\circ}=30^{\circ}.
