Question 120 of 142

A tuning fork AA of unknown frequency produces 5beatss−15beats{s}^{-1} with a fork of known frequency 340Hz340Hz. When fork AA is filed, the beat frequency decreases to 2beatss−12beats{s}^{-1}. What is the frequency of fork AA ?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 335Hz335Hz

Initially beat frequency =5Hz=5Hz
so,
ρA=340±5=345Hz,{\rho }_{A}=340\pm 5=345Hz, or 335Hz335Hz
after filing frequency increases slightly so, new value of frequency of
A>ρAA\gt {\rho }_{A}
Now, beat frequency
=2Hz=2Hz
⇒\Rightarrow new ρA=340±2=342Hz,{\rho }_{A}=340\pm 2=342Hz, or 338Hz338Hz
hence, original frequency of
AA is ρA=335Hz{\rho }_{A}=335Hz
