Question 131 of 142

The speed of sound in oxygen at S.T.P. will be approximately:
(Given,
R=8.3JK−1,γ=1.4)R=8.3J{K}^{-1},\gamma =1.4)

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 310ms−1310m{s}^{-1}

The speed of sound is given by,
v=γRTM=1.4×8.3×27332×10−3v=\sqrt{\dfrac{\gamma RT}{M}} =\sqrt{\dfrac{1.4\times 8.3\times 273}{32\times {10}^{-3}}}
=314.8541≃315ms−1=314.8541≃315m{s}^{-1}
Nearest answer given in the option is
310ms−1310m{s}^{-1}.
