Question 82 of 183

Two inclined planes are placed as shown in figure.
A block is projected from the Point
AA of inclined plane ABAB along its surface with a velocity just sufficient to carry it to the top Point BB at a height 10m10m. After reaching the Point BB the block slides down on inclined plane BCBC. Time it takes to reach to the point CC from point AA is t(2+1)st\left(\sqrt{2}+1\right)s. The value of t is _____ (use g=10ms−2g=10m{s}^{-2})

Show answer and solution

Answer: 2

From energy conservation at point
AA and BB,
12mv02=mgh\dfrac{1}{2}m{v}_{0}^{2}=mgh
⇒v0=gh=10×10\Rightarrow {v}_{0}=\sqrt{gh}=\sqrt{10\times 10}
⇒v0=102ms−1\Rightarrow {v}_{0}=10\sqrt{2}m{s}^{-1}
For
A→BA\rightarrow B
At
B,v=0B,v=0
Acceleration of a particle moving on a smooth incline is
gsin⁡θg\sin \theta. Therefore, along ABAB, a=−gsin⁡45∘=−102ms−2a=-g\sin 45^{\circ}=\dfrac{-10}{\sqrt{2}}m{s}^{-2}.
Using equation of motion,

v=u+at1v=u+a{t}_{1}
0=102−102t1⇒t1=2s0=10\sqrt{2}-\dfrac{10}{\sqrt{2}}{t}_{1}\Rightarrow {t}_{1}=2sFor B→CB\rightarrow C
Using second equation of motion,

s=ut2+12at22s=u{t}_{2}+\dfrac{1}{2}a{t}_{2}^{2}
⇒10sin⁡30∘=12(10sin⁡30∘)t22\Rightarrow \dfrac{10}{\sin 30^{\circ}}=\dfrac{1}{2}\left(10\sin 30^{\circ}\right){t}_{2}^{2}
t2=22s{t}_{2}=2\sqrt{2}s
So total time
T=t1+t2T={t}_{1}+{t}_{2} =22+2=2\sqrt{2}+2
=2(2+1)s=2\left(\sqrt{2}+1\right)s
