Question 97 of 183

The height of victoria's falls is 63m63m. What is the difference in the temperature of water at the top and at the bottom of the fall? [Given 1cal=4.2J1cal=4.2J and specific heat of water =1calg−1C∘−1]\left.=1cal{g}^{-1}{C^{\circ}}^{-1}\right]

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 0.147∘C0.147^{\circ}C

Here use the concept of conservation of energy, here potential energy is converted in to heat energy, ⇒mgh=msΔθ\Rightarrow mgh=ms\Delta \theta, here m,h&s, is the mass of the liquid, height of the fall, and specific heat capacity then, g×63=Δθ×4.2×103g\times 63=\Delta \theta \times 4.2\times {10}^{3}⇒Δθ=0.147∘C\Rightarrow \Delta \theta =0.147^{\circ}C.
