    Write the weighted-average equation

    Your overall grade is your current grade weighted by everything except the final, plus the final weighted by its share.

     extOverall= extCurrent (1−w)+ extFinal w\ ext{Overall} = \ ext{Current}\,(1-w) + \ ext{Final}\,w
  2. 2

    Put in your numbers

    90=86 (1−0.25)+Final×0.2590 = 86\,(1-0.25) + \text{Final}\times 0.25
  3. 3

    Solve for the final exam score

    Final=90−86×0.750.25=25.50.25=102%\text{Final} = \frac{90 - 86\times 0.75}{0.25} = \frac{25.5}{0.25} = 102\%

FAQ

How is the score needed on the final calculated?

Final needed = (desired grade − current grade × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final exam’s weight as a decimal (25% → 0.25).

What if the answer is above 100%?

Then the target is not reachable with the final alone. The calculator also shows the highest grade you can still finish with if you score 100%.

What should I use as my current grade?

Your course grade right now, before the final — the weighted average of everything graded so far, as shown in your school portal.
