Question 4 of 6

If α\alpha and β\beta are the roots of x2−5x+6=0x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0, then α2+β2\alpha^2 + \beta^2 is equal to:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 13

α+β=5\alpha + \beta = 5 and αβ=6\alpha\beta = 6. α2+β2=(α+β)2−2αβ=25−12=13\alpha^2 + \beta^2 = (\alpha+\beta)^2 - 2\alpha\beta = 25 - 12 = 13.
