Alternating Current

JEE Main level, numerical answer, medium

93 of 190

Question 93 of 190

The effective current II in the given circuit at very high frequencies will be _____ AA.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 44

At very high frequencies, inductor acts as an open circuit and capacitor as short circuit.
So, capacitive reactance,
XC=1ωC≈0{X}_{C}=\dfrac{1}{\omega C}\approx 0
Also, inductive reactance,
XL=ωL≈∞{X}_{L}=\omega L\approx \infty
Thus, equivalent circuit can be redrawn as

Here, both
4Ω4\Omega resistances are in parallel and together they are in series with1Ω1\Omega and 2Ω2\Omega resistances.
Equivalent impedance is
Z=1+4×44+4+2=5ΩZ=1+\dfrac{4\times 4}{4+4}+2=5\Omega
Effective current is
I=220V5Ω=44AI=\dfrac{220V}{5\Omega }=44A
