Choose the correct option from the following options given below :

Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) A classical atom based on Rutherford's model is doomed to collapse.

According to Rutherford's model, most of the mass of the atom is concentrated at the centre (nucleus) and the electron revolves around it.
As the electron is moving in a circular motion, it is accelerated. According to Maxwell accelerated charged particle loses its energy in the form of electro-magnetic radiation.

Therefore, a classical atom based on Rutherford's model is doomed to collapse.
