Question 17 of 239

Imagine that the electron in a hydrogen atom is replaced by a muon (μ).\left(\mu \right). The mass of muon particle is 207207 times that of an electron and charge is equal to the charge of an electron. The ionization potential of this hydrogen atom will be:-

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 2815.2eV2815.2eV

E∝1r⇒r∝1mE\propto \dfrac{1}{r}\Rightarrow r\propto \dfrac{1}{m}⇒E∝m\Rightarrow E\propto m. Ionization potential =13.6×(Massμ)eV(Masse)=13.6\times \dfrac{\left({\text{Mass}}_{\mu }\right)eV}{\left({\text{Mass}}_{e}\right)}
=13.6×207eV=2815.2eV=13.6\times 207eV=2815.2eV.
