Question 133 of 200

If the two metals AA and BB are exposed to radiation of wavelength 350nm350nm. The work functions of metals AA and BB are 4.8eVand2.2eV4.8eV\text{and}2.2eV. Then choose the correct option

Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) Metal AA will not emit photo-electrons

As we know, for photoelectric emission, hν>ϕh\nu \gt \phi.
Now,

hν=hcλ=1240350eV=3.54eVh\nu =\dfrac{hc}{\lambda }=\dfrac{1240}{350}eV=3.54eV
Therefore, only metal
BB will emit photoelectrons.
