Question 48 of 70

A tunning fork of frequency 480Hz480Hz is used in an experiment for measuring speed of sound (v)\left(v\right) in air by resonance tube method. Resonance is observed to occur at two successive lengths of the air column, l1=30cm{l}_{1}=30 cm and l2=70cm.{l}_{2}=70 cm. Then, ν\nu is equal to:

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 384ms−1384m{s}^{-1}

Speed of sound, v=2f(l2−l1)v=2f \left({l}_{2}-{l}_{1}\right)
=2×480(0.70−0.30)=2\times 480\left(0.70-0.30\right)
=384m/s=384 m/s
