Question 77 of 168

Two thermodynamical process are shown in the figure. The molar heat capacity for process AA and BB are CA{C}_{A} and CB{C}_{B}. The molar heat capacity at constant pressure and constant volume are represented by CP{C}_{P} and CV{C}_{V}, respectively. Choose the correct statement.

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) CP>CB>CV{C}_{P}\gt {C}_{B}\gt {C}_{V}

For process
AA:
log⁡P=γlog⁡V⇒P=Vγ,(γ>1)\log P=\gamma \log V\Rightarrow P={V}^{\gamma },(\gamma \gt 1)
PV−γ=P{V}^{-\gamma }= Constant
CA=CV+R1+γ…(i){C}_{A}={C}_{V}+\dfrac{R}{1+\gamma }\ldots \left(i\right)
Likewise, for process
B→PV−1=B\rightarrow P{V}^{-1}= Constant
CB=Cv+R1+1{C}_{B}={C}_{v}+\dfrac{R}{1+1}
CB=Cv+R2…(ii){C}_{B}={C}_{v}+\dfrac{R}{2}\ldots \left(ii\right)
Also,
CP=Cv+R…(iii){C}_{P}={C}_{v}+R\ldots \left(iii\right)
By
(ii)\left(ii\right) and (iii)\left(iii\right), we get
CP>CB>Cv{C}_{P}\gt {C}_{B}\gt {C}_{v}
