Question 100 of 168

A diatomic gas with rigid molecules does 10J10J of work when expanded at constant pressure. What would be the heat energy absorbed by the gas, in this process?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 35J35J

Cp=72R{C}_{p}=\dfrac{7}{2}R (for diatomic gas)
ΔQ=nCpΔT\Delta Q=n{C}_{p}\Delta T (∴Isobaricprocess)\left(∴Isobaricprocess\right)
ΔW=nRΔT=10J\Delta W=nR\Delta T=10J
Given

∴ΔQ=n×72RΔT=72×10=35J∴\Delta Q=n\times \dfrac{7}{2}R\Delta T=\dfrac{7}{2}\times 10=35 J {nRΔT=10J}\left\{nR\Delta T=10 J\right\}
