Question 88 of 210

A block of 3kg\sqrt{3}kg is attached to a string whose other end is attached to the wall. An unknown force FF is applied so that the string makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the wall. The tension TT is : (Given g =10ms–2=10m{s}^{–2})

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 20N20N

From geometry,
θ=30∘\theta =30^{\circ}.
For equilibrium,

Tcos⁡θ=mgT\cos \theta =mg
⇒T=mgcos⁡30∘⇒T=3×1032\Rightarrow T=\dfrac{mg}{\cos 30^{\circ}} \Rightarrow T=\dfrac{\sqrt{3}\times 10}{\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2}}
⇒T=20N\Rightarrow T=20N
