Question 203 of 210

A smooth circular groove has a smooth vertical wall as shown in figure. A block of mass mm moves against the wall with a speed vv. Which of the following curve represents the correct relation between the normal reaction on the block by the wall (N)\left(N\right) and speed of the block (v)\left(v\right)?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (A)

The required centripetal force will be provided by the normal reaction
⇒N=mv2r\Rightarrow N=\dfrac{m{v}^{2}}{r}
This equation is similar to
y=kx2y=k{x}^{2} which is a parabola.
