Question 60 of 118

Two separate wires AA and BB are stretched by 2mm2mm and 4mm4mm respectively, when they are subjected to a force of 2N.2N. Assume that both the wires are made up of same material and the radius of wire BB is 44 times that of the radius of wire A.A. The length of the wires AA and BB are in the ratio of a:b.a:b. Then ab\dfrac{a}{b} can be expressed as 1x\dfrac{1}{x}, where xx is _____.

Show answer and solution

Answer: 32

For AEπr2=y2mma...(1)A\dfrac{E}{\pi {r}^{2}}=y\dfrac{2mm}{a}...\left(1\right)
For
BB Eπ⋅16r2=y4mmb...(2)\dfrac{E}{\pi \cdot 16{r}^{2}}=y\dfrac{4mm}{b}...\left(2\right)
∴(1)/(2)∴(1)/(2)
16=2b4a16=\dfrac{2b}{4a}
ab=132\dfrac{a}{b}=\dfrac{1}{32}
∴∴ =32=32
