Question 243 of 308

A person can throw a ball upto a maximum range of 100m100m. How high above the ground he can throw the same ball?

Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 50m50m

Horizontal range is maximum if the angle of projection is 45∘45^{\circ} and is given by Rmax⁡=u2g{R}_{\max }=\dfrac{{u}^{2}}{g}
Here,
Rmax=100m{R}_{max}=100m
Then,
100=u2g⋯(1)100=\dfrac{{u}^{2}}{g}\cdots \left(1\right)
If the ball is thrown vertically upward, then the ball will attain the maximum height from the ground as
Hmax⁡=u22g{H}_{\max }=\dfrac{{u}^{2}}{2g}
Hmax⁡=1002=50m{H}_{\max }=\dfrac{100}{2}=50m
